Because of the drought in Zimbabwe, Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation deliver 440 tons of rice to reduce crisis of the food shortage. The relief mission benefit almost 200,000 in 42,000 families.
In Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central Province, at least 500 households in 10 wards of the drought hit area of Mukumbura who have received rice packs from Tzu Chi.
Tzu Chi is undertaking humanitarian aid in Zimbabwe. The donation comes at a time when government has intensified efforts to mitigate effects of the El-Nino induced drought.
Speaking at the handover of three tones of the cereal, Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development Deputy Minister Noveti Muponera who is also the National Assembly member for Mt Darwin North, he said, “The donation mainly benefited the elderly and orphans in the area. It will help a lot. We thank the foundation for this donation.” This humanitarian project provides relief to people in the area.
Besides rice distribution, Tzu Chi is also looking into how we can assist rural schools with learning materials and infrastructure.
